Alyssa Vinyo worked a job in hotel HR until Hurricane Helene Hit, now she runs a relief center from her front yard.
Three weeks after the storm made landfall, I traveled by myself to some of the most devastated locations from the storm. I am telling the story of the arduous journey towards relief led by locals. I have followed recovery in Buncombe, Mitchell, and Yancey County. Rising Light Relief has been the main vessel for this story.
